...that government of the people, by the people, for the people,
shall not perish from the Earth. -- Abraham Lincoln
In the United States and many other countries, our government,
our economy, and our news and entertainment media are almost
totally controlled by an ultra-wealthy elite comprising much
less than 1% of the population.

Is this the best way for human society to function?
Are war, genocide, bigotry, exploitation, and the destruction
of our planet really necessary? Is this the natural way for
humans to be? Are we born wanting to act this way?
Or are we living under the influence of cultural traditions
that *teach* us to hurt each other, and to waste our energy
in conflict instead of using it for cooperation and creativity?
Marija Gimbutas, Riane Eisler, Wilhelm Reich, George Gurdjieff,
Peter D Ouspensky, Alfie Kohn, and others have described from
various viewpoints a pandemic emotional/social illness that has
plagued the human species for the last 5,000 years.
Gimbutas and Eisler called it the "Dominator Paradigm" or
"Dominator Culture". Reich called it the "Emotional Plague".
Gurdjieff and Ouspensky called it "Sleep".

William Blum's book _Killing Hope_ details how the U.S. government
attacked over fifty different nations between 1945 and 1990, to
prevent their populations from gaining or keeping control of their
own government, economy, and news media. This was done in order to
maintain and increase the profits made by ultra-wealthy American
businessmen in those countries (as well as the profits from weapons
manufacture). The U.S. government, economy, and news media are all
controlled by ultra-wealthy businessmen.
_The Chalice and the Blade_, by Riane Eisler, 1988, ISBN

biologically innate. She calls this condition "Dominator
Culture".

Wilhelm Reich discovered that most people are afflicted
with a contagious psychological/physiological illness, which
causes (in various circumstances) anxiety, bigotry, hatred,
depression, sexism, exploitation, militarism, genocide, etc.
These phenomena are *not* natural to human beings. He called
this condition "the Emotional Plague".
This book is currently out of print until 1999; however, the
publisher may move it up on the reprinting schedule if they
get requests for it, which should be made to Deborah Dyson
